Frederik Jensen

Danish pro Frederik Jensen has won the European Poker Tour Madrid 2012, after overcoming a field of 477 players over five days to lift the title, and collect the €495,000 ($652,131) first place prize, after a deal was agreed.

At the 2010 Aussie Millions, Jensen took 2nd place at the $10k event for $1,015,257, but this was the first time he has actually taken down a major competition. when asked later how it felt to win his first tournament, Jensen replied:

“It feels amazing…Just you saying I’m the winner, as I’m not really familiar with that when it comes to live tournaments and I’ve played a few.”

By the time the €5,300 tournament reached its eight man final table, Frederik Jensen was lying in 3rd place behind chip leader Ricardo Ibañez (Spain) and Fraser MacIntyre (Scotland).

A few hours later with just five players remaining, Frederik Jensen caught a huge break when his 3-bet (6-5) was called by Bruno Lopes with pocket kings. Jensen then 3-bet all-in on the 7-6-3 flop, and found himself a 2 to 1 underdog after the cards were flipped. However, a 5 on the turn made Jensen two pair and propelled him to a massive chip lead overall.

As the competition then played down to three players, a deal was struck whereby chip leader Jensen was guaranteed €385,000, MacIntyre €290,000, and Stoenescu €330,000, but with €110,000 earmarked for the eventual winner.

Andrei Stoenescu (K-8) was subsequently eliminated by Frederik Jensen (7s-6s) on a
10d-8s-5s-Ks-Qc, thus heralding in the heads-up phase of the competition.

At this stage, Jensen held a 2:1 chip lead and 15 minutes later it was all over after MacIntyre open-shoved with A-9 into Jensen’s A-10. With his runner-up finish,
Fraser MacIntyre is currently second only to David Vamplew on Scotland’s all-time tournament money list, while Frederik Jensen picked-up his first title, and has now taken his live earnings to $2,097,188.

Superstar Showdown: Isildur1

The result of the latest Superstar Showdown between Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom and Alexander “Kanu7″ Millar was yet another victory for the heads-up specialist, this time by $37,687.

From the 11 different opponents he has faced as part of his ongoing challenge, the Swede has lost to just one player, Isaac Haxton, and is currently up roughly $650k.

In his latest encounter, the 21 year-old took on England’s Alexander “Kanu7″ Millar, who has won $999,343 at PokerStars and $256,133 at Full Tilt cash tables over the past year and a half. Nevertheless, in their previous cash table encounters at PokerStars virtual felts, Blom is up $160,000 against Millar.

This time around, the pros sat down at the tables with a total of $300k in front of them and proceeded to play 2,500 hands of $100/$200 NLHE.

Within 200 hands, Isildur1 had taken an $80k lead but the by the 500th hand Millar was ahead by $20K, and then $60k by hand 1,400. Unfortunately for Millar, that was as good as it got after hand 1,625 produced the biggest pot of the match, which went Isildur1′s way.

In the $100,900 pot, Isildur1 (Kd-4d) raised pre-flop to $2,600 before calling Millar’s 3-bet (6c-7c). The Brit then lead out for $4k on the Ad-Jh-4c flop, and $11,500 on the 5s turn with nothing more than an open-ended straight draw. Each time Isildur1 called, including after Millar missed on the 9d river and shoved for his remaining $32,350 stack.

“Haha he’s back, nh” a good humoured Millar then quipped.

At this point, Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom was now up $59,275 and by hand 2,066 had surged to a $148,275 lead.

To his credit, Millar dug in and would have been mighty relieved to claw back $110,588 of his losses over the next 434 to finish just $37,687 down for the match. This included a $95,650 pot in which Isildur1 (J-9) with a busted draw shoved for $32,825 on the river into the pocket queens of his opponent on a 8-6-2-5-2 board.

Alexander “Kanu7″ Millar may have lost, but he put in a fierce performance and treated rail birds to one of the most entertaining Superstar Showdowns yet.

Anonymous Tables Collusion Concerns 2012

Most poker rooms allow a whole slew of practices which benefits a small group of professional players to the detriment of casual players. These include allowing access to data-mining sites, the use of tracking software and HUD’s, as well as rakeback schemes.

Bodog, however, rigidly enforces a Recreational Poker Model in which casual players are considered the life blood of the industry and are afforded all possible protection from the poker sharks.

As well as addressing all the practices already mentioned, back in November, 2011, Bodog also launched its all-site anonymous tables. The idea behind the move was to further prevent opponent’s gathering detailed information on players through the use of unauthorized HUDs and other data mining sites like SharkScope and PokerTableRatings.

Nevertheless, the possibility of collusion between unidentified players then raised its head and as a Bodog press release later stated:

“Once all the noise of whining poker ‘pros’ who could no longer use software allowing access to data on how you play your game against Bodog players died down the only credible complaint was the threat of collusion.”

However, this concern has now been addressed with the introduction of a Hand History feature by Bodog on March 15th, which allows players to request competitors’ hands within a 24-hour waiting period. Commenting on Bodog’s new software update, VP of the Bodog Poker Network Jonas Odman, stated:

“The fact that we can now offer players this information is another advantage of our anonymous tables and something nobody else can offer. Collusion is a natural concern for any poker room but this new additional feature puts the player in full control. This makes the Bodog Poker Network the fairest place to play poker online in the world.”

In the past unscrupulous colluders have often been caught by the players themselves, and so now any player who suspects something amiss during a session can analyze his opponet’s hand and uncover any cheating. Bodog has therefore shown once again that it is doing its utmost to level the playing field and make the game more enjoyable for its casual customer base.
